New iCaur EV Brand Launches in South Africa: V23 & 03T Pricing, Specs, and Features Revealed

Meet South Africa’s Newest EV Brand: iCaur

The South African electric vehicle (EV) market just got a major shakeup with the official arrival of iCaur.

Operating as the newest new-energy brand under the massive Chery Group umbrella, iCaur specializes in producing exciting, retro-styled electric SUVs. Originally known as the “iCar” brand in China, the company rebranded to “iCaur” for overseas markets due to international trademark restrictions.

Aimed at a younger demographic and adventure-seekers, the brand focuses on highly customizable lifestyle vehicles. To kick things off in South Africa, iCaur has launched two highly anticipated models: the V23 and the 03T.

To support the launch, the brand has already established an impressive network of 28 dealerships across South Africa, from Cape Town to Boksburg.

The iCaur V23: A Quirky Retro Electric SUV

The iCaur V23 serves as the brand’s entry-level offering, designed to look like a classic, boxy 4×4 off-roader. With its flat bonnet, round LED headlights, and proud wheel arches, it draws aesthetic inspiration from iconic vehicles like the Suzuki Jimny and classic Land Cruisers.

V23 Pricing and Powertrains

The V23 is offered in two distinct specifications to suit different driving needs and budgets.

  • iCaur V23 2WD: Priced at R519,900, this model uses a single rear electric motor producing 100kW and 180Nm of torque. It utilizes a 59.93kWh battery, granting a claimed NEDC range of 360km.
  • iCaur V23 AWD: Priced at R669,900, the all-wheel-drive variant adds a front motor to produce a combined 155kW and 292Nm of torque. This drops the 0-100km/h sprint to just 7.5 seconds and uses a larger 81.8kWh battery for up to 430km of range.

V23 Interior Features and Tech

Inside the cabin, the V23 merges old-school tactile controls with modern technology.

  • Infotainment: The dashboard boasts a massive 15.4-inch touchscreen featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
  • Charging & Connectivity: The cabin is equipped with a 50W wireless induction charger, alongside powerful USB-C and USB-A ports.
  • Safety: Both models come standard with six airbags and a rearview camera. The AWD model upgrades to a 540-degree surround-view camera and an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which includes automatic emergency braking and lane-keep assist.

The iCaur 03T: The Premium Boxy SUV

For buyers looking for something a bit larger and more sophisticated, iCaur offers the 03T. Slotting in above the V23, the 03T swaps the extreme retro look for strong geometric shapes, slimline LED lights, and blown arches.

The 03T is a highly practical family SUV, offering ample legroom and a 450-litre boot that expands to 1,238 litres when the rear seats are folded.

03T Pricing and Performance Specs

Similar to the V23, the 03T is available in both two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.

  • iCaur 03T 2WD: Priced at R639,900, this version delivers 135kW and 220Nm of torque. Powered by a 65.69kWh battery, it provides an estimated NEDC range of 431km.
  • iCaur 03T AWD: Priced at R699,900, this top-tier model rockets from 0-100km/h in just 6.5 seconds thanks to its dual motors, which put out 205kW and 385Nm. It uses a 69.77kWh battery for a maximum range of 436km.

03T Luxury Upgrades

The 03T justifies its higher price tag with several premium comfort features.

  • Premium Audio: The 2WD model includes an eight-speaker stereo, while the AWD model treats passengers to a 12-speaker Infinity sound system.
  • Comfort: AWD owners benefit from massage functions in the front seats and an electrically adjustable leg rest for the front passenger.
  • Off-Road Modes: The AWD version offers nine specific driving modes, including Beach, Muddy, and All-Road settings.

Warranty, Charging, and Value

One of the biggest selling points of the new iCaur lineup is the comprehensive peace of mind offered to new buyers.

Both the V23 and 03T come with a stellar 8-year/200,000km vehicle warranty and an 8-year/160,000km battery warranty for the first owner. They also include a 5-year/100,000km service plan.

If you are thinking of making the switch to electric, early adopters are in for a treat. iCaur has announced that the first 150 customers to purchase a V23 or 03T will receive a free 7kW home wallbox charger, alongside a GridCars charge card for public network usage.
